Meet Rebecca, owner of Whistle Club:
Q: How/why did you start your business?
A: I cut my teeth working in the corporate side of the fashion industry in New York City both as a buyer in e-commerce and in merchandise consulting / trend forecasting. When I moved back to Santa Barbara I had to be more creative in charting my own path if I wanted to stay in the industry. Ultimately, I saw a void in the market and wanted to introduce the community to independent designers and fashion industry favorites that had no representation in the area. I signed up for a Women’s Economic Ventures class that helped guide me through the process of writing a proper business plan and the rest is history!
Q: What makes you the most passionate about your work?
A: I have always been drawn to fashion, and I love knowing the items we curate ultimately become integrated into the lives of our clients – from special occasions to the regular day to day – it all feels really special. I believe in the power of getting dressed and its potential to instill confidence, enhance moods, mark memories, etc. It’s such an honor to get to play a small role in that process for others.
Q: What is your favorite item in the store right now?
A: Ooh, hard question. If I had to play favorites right now, I'm loving any color of the Elkin Denim. They're so flattering on just about everyone who slips them on.
Q: Where can we find you on a weekend or your day off?
A: I’m the mom of two boys (ages 2 and 4) so we can often be found exploring the tide pools at Miramar Beach or running around the Mission Rose Garden with snacks in hand.
Q: How long have you been in business?
A: Whistle Club opened originally in Spring of 2014 - so seven years now.
Q: Pro styling tip
A: Wear what you love and feel great in – confidence always translates.
Q: Connection to Santa Barbara, why do you work/live here?
A: I’m a UCSB graduate, so college was my original connection to Santa Barbara. I moved to NYC for seven years thereafter, but was pining for a return to the west coast and all the glory that is Santa Barbara. I often joked that I wanted to retire here. Needless to say, I’m not retired. But I made the move happen, and I’m entirely grateful to call Santa Barbara my home.
